THE HILT
The Hilt champions pinot noir and chardonnay from the climatic margins of California's coastal winegrowing regions, Santa Barbara County's Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley AVAs prominent among them. The philosophy of "growing in the margins" propels winegrowers to employ practices that enable grapes to show full transparency of site-key to The Hilt's philosophy. The Hilt and Jonata are owned by Ann and Stan Kroenke.
Just 186 cases of this stellar wine from the coolest site on the western edge of the Sta Rita Hills.
"Enticing aromatic mix of candied lemon, ripe summer nectarine, almond paste, sage and rosemary. Broad and succulent on the attack. Fresh olive oil alongside elote with Cotija and lime. Peaches and cream. Ripe, but also expressing a level of restraint with energy, vibration and tension. Combination of ripe base notes, high tone floral elements and lifted energy. A wild ride, but ultimately cohesive and stunning. Most sincere Puerta expression to date as the sunshine, wind and nearby Pacific Ocean are all present in the glass." - Matt Dees
