RANCHOS de ONTIVEROS

James Ontiveros is the ninth generation of California land owners, still farming the same valley that generations of his family have called home. His wines tell a real story about the durability of truth, the people, and the earth itself. Through the struggle of a cold windswept coastal desert, these vines reach for water and nutrients in the depleted earth. When combined with purposeful farming in the cool Mediterranean climate, hia Santa Maria Valley and Happy Canyon vineyards bear fantasticly raw product for winemaking. Becuase each parcel is so distinct, there are 3 core brands that make up this family of wines: Native9, Rancho Vinedo and Canada de los Pinos.  And since 2016, Santa Barbara County star Justin Willet has headed the winemaking across all 3 sites.

2015 Native9 Pinot Noir, Rancho Ontiveros Vyd

"Light and fresh on the nose, this bottling only shows hints of age despite its seven-year-old status. Aromas of muddled strawberry and sharp peppercorn lead into a savory palate of cracked pepper, blistered tomato and cranberry, with a zesty acidity pumping into a complex finish." -Matt Kettmann, 95WE

2015 Rancho Vinedo 'Dona Martina' Chardonnay, Rancho Ontiveros Vyd

"The 2015 Chardonnay Rancho Vinedo Dona Martina is cut from the same cloth yet shows the more firm, angular style of the vintage. Citrus blossom, sugared mint, and white flower notes all flow to a vibrant, nicely concentrated, impressive white that will evolve for upward of a decade. (Drink between 2018-2028)" -Jeb Dunnuck, 91JD

2016 Rancho Vinedo Pinot Noir, Rancho Ontiveros Vyd

"There's a charmingly rustic vibe to this bottling, with blistered tomato, smoked kelp and savory umami notes drawing in the nose. The palate is also very savory, with cherry tomato, soy sauce and dried herb flavors." -Matt Kettmann, 93WE

2019 Rancho Vinedo 'Dona Martina' Chardonnay, Rancho Ontiveros Vyd

"The 2019 Chardonnay Doña Martina is wonderfully classy and polished from start to finish. Lemon peel, dried flowers, chamomile and white pepper give this airy, mid-weight Chardonnay tons of personality. A hint of French oak works well in adding just enough texture to fill out the mid-palate. This is such a classy wine. (Drink between 2023-2029)" -Vinous, 93VM
