"So perfumed and seductive on the nose, with black cherries, minerals and rose petals that follow through to a medium body with ultra-fine tannins. Its finesse and vision tell you why Brunello is great. Long, vivid and beautifully balanced. Already a joy to taste, but best after 2027" -James Suckling, 99JS
"Fuligni is one of Montalcino’s benchmark estates" says Wine Advocate, and we couldn't agree more. Borne of a Venetian family who moved to Tuscan coast in the 1770s, by 1923 they settled in Montalcino to produce wine as their family had done previously in Maremma. Blessed by luck, they chanced upon 100 hectares of land on the high slopes of Montalcino where the cooler air and crumbly clay & schist soils lend freshness and structure to Sangiovese that many call Brunello's truest interpretation. But land alone wasn't the recipe. Francesco Vagaggini joined the team in the 1960s to make the wines, and two decades later, his son Paolo followed. Paolo is widely regarded as the greatest crafter of Sangiovese in the world, and also consults at Biondi Santi, Caprili, Le Chiuse and Il Marroneto. Which all paves the way for today's 2021 Brunello, a wine that Kerin O'Keefe (formerly Wine Enthusiast and Decanter's Italian Editor in Chief) hails as a wine whose "finesse and vision tell you why Brunello is great".
