Tenuta dell' Ornellaia 2023 Ornellaia

"The Ornellaia 2023 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot... The wine shows impressive richness and concentration with a bouquet that leans botanical and complex, marked by dark fruit, Mediterranean thyme and rosemary...The texture is velvety and polished, delivering beautiful richness with a sense of succulence that feels expansive on the palate. According to proprietor Lamberto Frescobaldi, the goal is to establish a clear through line focused on freshness and balancing fruit and spice while avoiding excess ripeness. This is a meticulously made Ornellaia that captures the vintage with remarkable elegance. The wine was bottled in July 2025 and is scheduled for release in March 2026." -Wine Advocate, 98WA

Earlier this week we released one of Italy's greatest wines, the Sassicaia.  Now comes its neighbor, Ornellaia, and one heckuva sibling rivalry saga. You see, Tenuta dell' Ornellaia isn't just a vineyard neighboring cousin Nicolò Incisa''s Sassicaia estate, but it's also the creation of Marchese Lodovico Antinori, brother of Piero Antinori and his Super Tuscan, Solaia. Which is all to say, planting these vines in 1981 was a flag planted in the ground for both cousin and brother to answer 1 question: 'which of us is gonna make a better wine'. Initially under the guidance of famed Napa Valley oenologist Andre Tchelitscheff, and then in subsequent years equally famed consultant Michel Rolland, Ornellaia has often produced wines of the year status in Tuscany, and is often named on critic's Top 100 Wines of the Year lists.  What's their secret?  Clay-soiled vines overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, producing warm days to ripen berries, but cooled nightly by onshore ocean breezes. The results - one of the most robust, fruit-forward Bordeaux blends found anywhere in the world.
