"Debut vintage of wine from the Racines founders’ own 23-acre vineyard planted in 2020 in fractured limestone and calcareous clay loam under the guidance of French geologist Yves Hérody. Ranging from 540 to 850 feet in elevation, the hillside is planted to 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. Spontaneous fermentation in a combination of 500-litre puncheons and 228-litre Damy barriques, resulting in about 25% new oak. After just under a year in barrel, the wine and all the lees were moved to tank for an additional seven months of cellaring. 390 cases produced. Very dense and concentrated with more stony than fruit character. (Drink between 2026-2032)" Jancis Robinson 16.5/20 JR
When two of France’s most storied producers unite to create world class wines that rival their homegrown bottlings, the wine world takes notice. Burgundy's Étienne de Montille and Rodolphe Péters of Champagne house, Pierre Peters, settled on the Santa Rita Hills due to its cool climate and highly varied soils. Initially they partnered with Justin Willett (Native9, Tyler) to be their onsite co-producer, but after he purchased Fiddlestix Vyd, they realized that a full-time, ‘in-house’ producer was needed, and pried Ryan Hannaford away from Oregon’s Evening Land and Patricia Green vineyards.
