Notes from the producer: 2023 Likha Wine Co Cabernet Franc: Deep ruby color, Medium Plus acidity, Medium Plus tannin, Medium Plus body, Red & Dark fruit (red cherry, raspberry, strawberry, black cherry, blackcurrant), capsicum, rhubarb, mint, tomato leaf, lavender, liquorice, coffee, etc. Drink now – 2030 (longer TBD),

Likha Wine Co is a partnership project between Jhonel Faelnar (Master Sommelier candidate) and Chai Gray (WSET Level 3 in Wine, & Olive Oil Sommelier). Both the Cabernet Franc and Syrah wines are produced in limited quantities and are on the menus of highly esteemed restaurants in New York and California.

The grapes are single-sourced from Chai’s Vineyard located on a windy ridge-side slope in the Ballard Canyon AVA of Santa Barbara. Soil texture is clay and mineral content, primarily limestone. This relatively new vineyard with low yields is organically farmed alongside a 25-year-old olive orchard. The vines are own-rooted, the Cab Franc a Loire Valley clone, and the Syrah a Northern Rhone clone. There’s also a little Viognier planted for a co-ferment with the Syrah.
